How do you describe the essence of Mom, my mom, in something short and sweet? Is it even possible? It’s like describing the richness of a forest by describing the trees – it just doesn’t capture the mystery, the beauty, the experience of life within that space. Or by describing the seashore by talking about sand and water – it leaves out the power, the world of life under the surface, the changing nature and the endless possibilities as far as the eye can see. Maybe it is useless to describe for others what my mom is to me. So I will just tell her.
Mom, I am so happy to be your son, because I see in you qualities that I want to see in me. I have your genes, your cells, so I know it is a possibility. I hope someday my kids will see me in themselves, and be happy about it.
I am glad that I can love like you, that I can connect with you and with others in such a deep way. I love that I love to bring people together and get us all going down the same path, happily, like you do. I love to look good and be put together like you do. I love that I can help you with your computer learnings, how you have taught me growing up and even now while still growning up. I love to make things simple like you do, and to be pleasant, and encouraging. I love it when people think I am younger than I am – just like they do for you. I love that I encourage my faith and religion for me and my family, just like you. I love the special meals, and for making every moment special. I love looking into my children’s eyes and talking to them one on one, just like you do with me. I love to have a home that is clean and organized, and there are places to sit in the sun and stare at the trees – just like I did at home. I love it when I see you with my kids, as I know they are getting a taste of how special Grandma JJ is. I want them to know that they can be strong and kind, smart and vulnerable, looking good and taking names, while caring for others and making others feel special. How sweet is it to always feel like a Prince, a Chicken Little, or your Little Tot? I’ll tell you…it is the best!
If you don’t know that you have this wonderful effect on others, well I am here to tell you that you have been the greatest Mom a guy could ever have. You have set such a wonderful example that it warms my heart when I can pass that on to my family. And as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, I know that my connection to you will last forever. I love you. Happy Birthday. And here’s to a wonderful young 75 years. May you have many many more, knowing that you have touched my life in a way that inspires me, and brings me joy every day.
