Take One Action Per Day

If you’ve been reading this column, you have read lots about what I want to do, what I need to do, and my plans for doing those things.  It seems to me that I write about it every day, and after years of writing I am starting to feel like I write much more than I take action.  So today I am going to write about taking action!

I know you are saying, “yeah, whatever”, because I am too.  Still, here is my attempt to get out of analysis paralysis.

Take investing.  In my minds eye, I see this as a lot of work or at least a chunk of focused concentration that will be needed to take action.  This is my top #1 thing and I write and think about this most!  And yet, when it comes down to moving on it, I am either too tired, not willing to sit in front of a computer, or don’t had the time or strength to drum up the focus to complete this task.  When I do, it has taken me at least an hour of focused time.  And I have lots more tasks to do!
 .
So here’s my thought.  Take one action per day.  Just one; unless you feel like taking more, but do at least one.  By the end of the work week, you will have done 5 things within this topic.  At the end of the work month, you will have done 22 things!  And you might just get into the habit of doing some thing every day, which will make it easier, if not automatic, to keep doing some thing.
 .
And in order to take those one per day actions, you must know what they are.  So the planner side of me gets to write about the steps beforehand.  Lay them out.  So the thinking comes first, and the action comes next.
 .
Why didn’t I think of this before?
